Cassia, a mission driven, nonprofit organization serving older adults across multiple states, is seeking a strategic and experienced Director of People Systems and Payroll to join our team in Edina, MN. This is a vital leadership role that will oversee the direction, implementation, and continuous improvement of Cassia’s payroll and people systems across multiple legal entities and states.

As the Director of People Systems and Payroll, you will provide visionary leadership to a high-performing team and collaborate with cross-functional departments including HR, IT, and Finance. Your leadership will ensure a timely and effective upgrade from UKG Dimensions to UKG Pro HCM, support the current and new systems to increase automation and increase functionality, and oversee our Payroll Manager who leads our payroll processing team. Hands-on-work will be expected as we enhance and automate our systems to better support our team members and organizational goals.

Position Type: Full-Time

Wage Range: $110,000 - $130,000 Annually depending on experience

Director of People Systems and Payroll Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and hands-on leadership for the development, integration, and management of people (HRIS) and payroll systems.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to assess system needs, identify process improvements, and implement automation opportunities.
  • Serve as the point leader for a major HR/payroll system upgrade—guiding implementation, and optimization – and periodic updates. (UKG experience preferred.)
  • Will become proficient with Cassia’s HR/Payroll software to make changes as needed.
  • Supervise and provide leadership to the Payroll Manager at Cassia.
  • Lead and mentor payroll and people systems teams, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
  • Oversee all aspects of multi-state, multi-entity payroll operations with a focus on compliance, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Lead onboarding and offboarding of sites during acquisitions and divestitures, ensuring seamless system and payroll transitions.
  • Supervise system data integrations, updates, and reporting accuracy.
  • Deliver superior service and support to Cassia communities through issue resolution, reporting, and training.
Director of People Systems and Payroll Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Human Resources, or related field.
  • At least 8 years of progressive experience in HR/People systems and payroll, including leadership roles.
  • Proven success in hiring, coaching, and leading high-performing teams.
  • Experience with system implementations or upgrades.
  • Strong understanding of HR systems, data flow, and payroll processes.
  • Deep knowledge of payroll regulations and accounting principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment in handling sensitive information.
  • Experience in managing organizational change initiatives.
  • Experience in a multi-site, 24/7 operation environment preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll tax accounting, reporting, and compliance preferred.
